Since 2007, Gregory has lived and painted throughout the Maldives. As the celebrated Artist in Residency at over a dozen properties, Gregory has absorbed the life and color of the Maldives, above and below the sea. After more than a decade of feeding visually on the sea world of the Maldives, this curated collection of Gregory’s paintings reflects the aquatic life found in this island oasis.

Circled by mating manta rays and astounded by lumbering whale sharks, the menu of life below the surface of the waves is extensive. In strong currents teeming with darting fish, the artist-turned-diver sketched on an underwater drawing slate while eyeing to fin with colorful creatures and coral reefs. Retreating to his studio, Gregory appropriated references from these sketches, compelled to create art that captured glimpses of a world so contrary to our habituated life in air and gravity.
